ARIZONA PREMIERE
A colorful and raw coming-of-age story set in the emerging gay dance club scene of Amsterdam 1984, HOUSE OF BOYS tells the compelling story of Frank, a high school kid who leaves home and falls into an exciting new world of free sex, music and dance, centered around an all-male burlesque club / boarding house run by the glamorous, cross-dressing Madame (played by screen legend UDO KIER). When Frank’s new world is suddenly turned upside down, his struggle for courage in the face of the unknown gives him a new and deep understanding of the meaning of love.
UDO KIER is an internationally-acclaimed actor who has starred in a vast array of films from all different genres since beginning his career as a film actor in the late 1960s. Catapulted to superstardom after starring in two back-to-back cult classics in the early 1970s - ANDY WARHOL’S FLESH FOR FRANENSTEIN (where he played Baron Frankenstein) and ANDY WARHOL’S BLOOD FOR DRACULA (memorably embodying the infamous Count Dracula) – Kier went on to star in countless films for some of the greatest art film directors in history, including Ranier Werner Fassbinder (LILI MARLENE), Dario Argento (SUSPIRIA), Walerian Borowczyk (LULU), Werner Herzog (INVINCIBLE), Lars Von Trier (MELANCHOLIA, DANCER IN THE DARK, etc.), and Gus Van Sant (MY OWN PRIVATE IDAHO), among many others.
His unpredictable yet consistently busy career has allowed Kier to star in everything from mainstream Hollywood blockbusters (ACE VENTURA: PET DETECTIVE) to cult horror films (MARK OF THE DEVIL) to television series (THE KINGDOM), and even contribute vocal work to animated children’s programs (SCOOBY DOO! MYSTERY INCORPORATED) and star in pop music videos (Madonna’s DEEPER AND DEEPER).
The Loft Film Fest is proud to present its first “LOFTY” LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD to the one-and-only UDO KIER, a highly original and supremely iconic performer whose work, both old and new, continues to captivate and entertain generations of movie lovers.
