Richard Kelly’s strangely hypnotic and defiantly unclassifiable cult classic obliterates the walls between teen comedy, science fiction, family drama, horror, and cultural satire–and remains wildly entertaining throughout. Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Donnie, a borderline-schizophrenic teenager for whom there is no difference between the signs and wonders of reality (a plane crash that devastates his house) and hallucination (a demonic, man-sized rabbit who offers him cryptic advice). Obsessed with the science of time travel and acutely aware of the world around him, Donnie is isolated by his unnerving powers of analysis and the apocalyptic visions that no one else seems to share. Co-starring Jena Malone, Drew Barrymore and the late, great Patrick Swayze as a sleazy motivational speaker, DONNIE DARKO is a truly original work that does what few films can – create a totally unique movie universe that can be re-visited time and time again.

RICHARD KELLY, a graduate of the USC School of Film-Television, is an award-winning writer/producer/director whose unique vision and subversive sensibilities have produced three of the most original and eclectic feature films of the past decade – the modern day cult classic DONNIE DARKO (2001), the apocalyptic sci-fi epic SOUTHLAND TALES (2007), and the unsettling thriller THE BOX (2009). Through his film and television production company, Darko Entertainment, formed in 2007, Kelly and his Darko partners have helped support other independent filmmakers by producing such distinctive films as WORLD’S GREATEST DAD (2009) and I HOPE THEY SERVE BEER IN HELL (2009).
